Hello!! My name is Patty Ho, I am a web designer based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Education Background

I graduated from Ontario College of Arts and Design (OCAD), Toronto in 2002, majored in Editorial, Graphic Design. I learned the foundation of typography, composition, color theory, and printing press. After I graduated from OCAD I then applied to Sheridan Institutes's Interactive Multimedia as I wanted to pursue a career in web design. In Sheridan's Interactive Multimedia, I learned how to program by hand in HTML, Flash actionscript, CSS, and Database development. Right now my main strength is design and front-end site built with CSS.

Working Experiences

Orbis Communications Inc. 2003/05-2004/09 New Media Developer After I graduated from Sheridan, I got hired by Orbis Communications Inc. in Hamilton working as New Media Developer. While working for Orbis, I have created numerous Flash and multimedia works from CD presentations, CD introductions, site advertisement, and banners for Wilfrid Laurier University. Chum TV (Now CTVglobemedia) 2004/11-2007/10 Web Designer After Orbis, I landed myself a position in Chum TV working as Web Designer in the interactive department. I am mainly responsible for designing and building TV channel event and show microsites (eg, Muchsmusic.com, Citytv.com, Spacecast.com, Star-tv.com..etc) as well as sales promo contest sites as well. I also create online advertising banners including GIF and Flash banners associated with the sales promo sites as well. Torstardigital 2007/10-2009/12 SMG digital Senior Web Designer After 3 years at Chum, I decided to move on to take on different projects and challenges. I landed myself a senior web designer position at Torstar Digital (child company of Torstar). My day to day duty is to maintain SMG digital property sites (thestar.com, yourhome.ca, parentcetnral.ca, toronto.com). And occasionally layout tweaks, and sales pitch. Canwest Broadcasting 2009/10- 2011/10 Senior Web Designer After two years staying at Torstar Digital, I realize I am not really going anywhere in terms of career staying in the same spot. I want to be design focus. At Torstar, I became a day-to-day maintenance person who clean up the mess. Fortunately a position came up with Canwest Broadcasting. Canwest broadcasting owns several specialty channels such as HGTV, Food Network, Slice, Showcase and Global. I am excited to be in this job because I will be redesigning the new HGTV.ca and Slice.ca. It is pure front end web design position that I am very happy to be landed here.

Present position In 2006 I started my own freelance business along with my full time job. In Oct,2011, I decided to quit my full time job and focus on my location independent career with my freelance business.

What else can I say about myself?

I guess other than being a designer; I am also an active player participating in sports like Ultimate and Soccer. I love hiking, cooking, video games and enjoy trying out new things and being active.
